The role of the Federal Government

The Federal Government is actively involved in the sector dialogues. It creates an enabling environment and provide the resources needed for the process to be effective. It also ensures that the dialogues fulfil the requirements set out in the National Action Plan for Business and Human Rights (NAP) and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and are aligned with the wider global framework of initiatives in this area. The Federal Government only establishes sector dialogues in those sectors where there is a clear willingness among relevant stakeholders to engage constructively in the process and to find solutions. The Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) is the government body responsible for organising and coordinating the NAP sector dialogues in collaboration with the Interministerial Committee on Business and Human Rights (IMA).
